Florida Driver's License

Identification: U.S. Citizens

Bring one of the following original documents as proof of your identity:

  • Certified U.S. birth certificate, including territories and District of Columbia (a hospital birth certificate is not acceptable)
  • Valid U.S. passport
  • Certificate of naturalization
  • Consular report of birth abroad

Social Security Number

Bring one original of the following documents that show your complete name and Social Security number:

  • Social Security card (must be an original in your current full name)
  • W-2 form
  • Paycheck or stub
  • SSA-1099
  • Any 1099 (not handwritten)

Two Proofs of Residential Address

Bring two different documents from the following list showing your residential address (Internet printouts or faxes of these documents are acceptable) In order to obtain a Florida drivers license the first time, you will need to appear in person for your photo. Be sure to have your physical address and vehicle insurance in place. You will be required to surrender you previous drivers license at this time.

Non-commercial Class E licenses are acceptable for anyone driving a vehicle less than 26,001 pounds and/or driving an RV for recreational purposes only.

  • Florida vehicle registration or title
  • Florida boat registration or title (if living on a boat/houseboat)
  • Automobile payment booklet
  • Selective Service card
  • Medical or health card with address listed
  • Current automobile insurance policy or bill
  • W-2 form or 1099 form
  • Mail from financial institutions; including checking, savings, or investment account statements, or cell phone bill not more than two months old
  • Mail from federal, state, county, or city government agencies
  • Certification of Address form

Name Change

If you have ever legally changed your name by marriage or court order, you must submit the original or a certified copy of your marriage certificate or court order. No photocopies will be accepted unless certified by the issuing authority. For multiple name changes, you must show a document trail linking your current name to your chosen proof of identity. Marriage licenses must be from a governmental agency. Church issued marriage licenses cannot be accepted. If presenting a valid U.S. Passport and the name on your passport is your current name, you are not required to present additional name change documents.

Florida Vehicle Registration

  • Cost for first time out of state registration of a passenger vehicle in Florida is approximately $413.40. (Fees include transferring title, 1st year registration fee and new license plate.)
  • We provide your legal physical address.
  • Annual renewal of vehicle registration is from $65 to $95 per year-based on vehicle weight. RV registration renewal is approximately $95 per year. Annual renewals can be done online at or by mail.
  • No inspections or emissions testing requirement in this county. (No annual trips to Florida are necessary.)
  • Sales tax may be collected on vehicles purchased within 6 months of registration application. (Documentation of at least 6% sales tax paid on purchase must be provided to avoid being charged.)
  • If you have previously owned vehicles in Florida and have purchased a Florida license plate that you no longer use, you can save the $225.00 initial registration fee on a passenger vehicle.

Be prepared to provide the following documentation:

  1. Original title
  2. Proof of Florida Insurance
  3. Vehicle identification number (VIN) verified by a police officer (if not presenting the vehicle in person)
  4. Bill of sale for vehicles purchased in the last 6 months
